Dual indicators link geochemistry to microbiota in blue carbon soils

چکیده
In blue carbon ecosystems, biomarkers and indicators have been developed to assess soil biogeochemical processes history. this study, we investigate soils determine if geochemical characteristics can predict microbial characteristics, secondly these two reveal novel information about formation alteration. First, phospholipid fatty acids (PLFAs) identified functional groups abundances. Microbes varied strongly among the three ecosystems – seagrass, mangrove saltmarsh a lesser extent with age/depth. Then, x-ray fluorescence using core scanner (ITRAX) was used identify traits of soil. Lastly, statistical procedures were carried out test ability ITRAX-derived explain variation in PLFA composition. The for organic matter (OM) source turnover explained most variability PLFAs, followed by redox grain size. For both associated relatively higher OM availability reactivity abundance. High samples also supported range groups, including fungi co-existence prokaryotic aerobic anaerobic metabolisms. contrast, increased depths representing older ages showed decreases shifts processing through reduced active We suggest that data as an indicator conjunction other be multiple aspects (biology, provenance, physicochemistry), while possessing opportunity future development rapid field technique.

Although it is common to alternate between till and no-till practices, past research has considered farmers’ tillage options to be limited to the dichotomous choice of whether or not to switch to a long-term no-till regime. This paper expands farmers’ options and models their choices of tillage frequency. Less frequent tilling sequesters more carbon but permits a greater accumulation of weeds, ...

Serotonin is a highly ubiquitous signaling molecule that plays a role in the regulation of various physiological functions. Several lines of evidence, including the present work from Hsiao and colleagues, demonstrate that, in the gut, microbial-derived metabolites affect the production of serotonin that in turn impacts host physiological functions.

carbon and sulfur isotopic data are helpful in understanding environmental conditions under which soils are formed. soils from 18 sampling sites along a climotoposequence from higher laleh zar mountains (4,351 m above sea level with xeric-mesic soil moisture-temperature regimes) to shahdad depression (250 m above sea level with arid-hyperthermic soil moisture-temperature regimes) in kerman prov...
متن کاملIrrigation Increases Inorganic Carbon in Agricultural Soils
Inorganic C reactions are among the most important chemical reactions that occur in irrigated soils and may contribute to the total amount of C sequestered in those soils. Because CO2 can escape from soils to the atmosphere or return to precipitate carbonate minerals, soils are open systems with regard to inorganic C. We measured inorganic and organic C stored in southern Idaho soils having lon...
